The bird is carved out of basswood, glass eyes hand made glue feet and fully detailed by burning pen, it stands 18 inches tall, measuring approximately 17 inches from the tip of its beak to the end of its tail and the widest part of the bird is about 6".

A kindred of other diurnal birds of prey, the Osprey is so distinctive it is sometimes placed in it own family. Its large size and uniquely curved claws allow the Osprey to carry a large fish a considerable distance to feed to its young in the nest.
Occasionally an eagle dives upon an Osprey carrying a fish, forces a release, and catches the fish for itself before the fish hits the water.
